Recent developments in instrumentation provide new opportunities for clay scientists. Most scientists are unaware of the latest techniques and methods. In addition, the real potential of new techniques can only be realized when practical examples are provided. The session is planned for contributions where genuine research results are obtained by applying the most recent or non-conventional instrumental techniques. According to the intention of the organizers, particular attention shall be given to study of composites, nano-structured materials, surface-modified minerals, organo-complexes examined by e.g. high temperature Raman microscopy, infrared reflection spectroscopy, high resolution DSC, or controlled-rate thermal analysis.
